Blog #11: Computer Science Blog Series

When I first started this blog I did not have much of an idea where it would lead. I started wondering how can this benefit me? How can I benefit others? My life (like most) is rather busy between work, school, and maintaining some form of social presence. Time is an important factor to consider when writing these blog (which has been a fulfilling experience to say the least).

After much consideration there is an answer to my questions above. Start a blog series about computer science related topics! I have worked as a computer scientist for a few years now, but I know I have become rusty with many subjects. So to help me “derust” and sharpen my skills I will work on topics of interest to me and demonstrate my knowledge by writing and hopefully receive critic through this series.

To address my concerns and to form a commitment to myself and others I want to answer:

  • How to structure this series?
  • What content will be most talked about?
  • How can this benefit me? How can I benefit others?

Answers:

How to structure this series?

Chances are it will be what I feel like studying. I am a software engineer by training so keeping my skills sharp in programming is a must.  But being a computer scientist is so much more than programming! Lots to talk about and learn.

What content will be most talked about?

I will be covering topics in theory, systems, human-computer interaction, machine learning, data science, software engineering, virtual reality, whatever really.

How can this benefit me? How can I benefit others?

This benefits me by visiting or revisiting a computer science concept -> learn it -> practice it -> write about it. This cycle will help reinforce my learning and hopefully help others in some way. And if luck strikes it will serve as a major test in my research and writing skills. Both can always use some work.

Phew, that was a blog full. I would love to read an comments or interesting subject to look into. Feel free to comment or send an email my way.

Thanks for reading.

  1. I’m glad you’ve decided to keep blogging! The blogging I’ve done for classes this school year reminded me how much I enjoy more creative, casual writing and sharing what I am passionate about. And it’s really cool when people read and comment on your blog. A few weeks ago I shared an article I really liked with our class via a blog post and linked to the original article and other links related to their research. It was so cool to get comments from the journal article’s author, have my post be tweeted by one of the authors and have readers from all over the world! I don’t think any of them are regularly reading my blog, but I was excited to have readers. Good luck with your new blog!

    1. That’s awesome! I concur, the blogging community is rather special. Now that I’v had a chance to give it a shot myself I’m motivated to continue blogging and hopefully get regulars who enjoy the content. Feels good man.
